See how they've grown...

Today the 5 baby blue birds are 5-6 days old, depending on which blue bird you are looking at :)
I find it amazing how quickly the grow...check them out.

Late June 13th

We're hungry!!

Look how fragile, one egg to hatch!

 Tiny tuffs of fuzz

 Finally all 5 are here...early a.m. June 15

All together now....there's always one that doesn't play the game isn't there!!

Working like birds...

This afternoon I realized that I have just a few days before the little Blue Bird Brood flys the coop. I grabbed the camera and the canister of meal worms and sat in the yard to watch mom and pop Blue Bird work.

This is a Dogs Eye View of Blue Bird life...

Here's mom waiting for pop to leave the box so she can deliver the next course to the peeps...

Here is mom at the little feeder I have been placing a few extra meal worms a couple times a day.
Thus giving mom and dad a little break from the constant finding of feed.
I think I count 5 or 6 worms in her beak...

Love this shot...both mom and day at the box---notice mom is loaded with meal worms

Dad usually doesn't enter the box when he feeds, Find him hanging outside......but
he does an excellent job of fecal sac removal!!! Guess he knows that taking out the garbage is his job!!

Mom leaving the box after bringing home the worms!!
Day #11
Look tiny little blue feathers!!
Research says that by day #11 the nestlings are beginning to preen, also find them hopping and stretching to strengthen their muscles.  The males have bright blue feathers (so looks like at least 1 male :)  Tomorrow will be my last day of "peeking" at this brood. I will then continue to observe from a safe distance to ensure we don't have a premature fledging.

Check back tomorrow for my final inside the nesting box photos!!

Meet the Blue Birds...

I interrupt Friday Photo Dump to introduce you to my blue birds...these two have been buzzing around the nesting box for the last couple of days, think they finally won the bidding war with the house sparrows!! The sky is a brilliant blue and the temp makes for a mild spring type day. I should be doing laundry, cleaning floors or some other type of house or yard work (boring :)  Heck, those things can and will  wait, it's was time to grab the camera and capture these two new neighbors. I am finding the female to be very curious of this crazy human that sits in the grass and chats with her! The male is a bit less cooperative in allowing his photo to be taken. Must keep trying.....

I am contemplating on what names to give them, any suggestions???? Maybe I should have a contest!! Yes, I will have a contest....the winner will receive your choice of one of the following shots  that will be made into a photo greeting card. Okay, submit your entry by March 15 (via the comment section or email me) and a winner will be announced on the 17th!!

Meanwhile, I will continue to get attempt to get a good shot of the male!!

Blue Bird Shake...

If you remember my post from yesterday I said I was going to clean house...
I did and the exciting part is.....
while shaking out my throw rugs I observed this

A blue bird checking out one of the new houses that we placed last week!!
Hope the blue birds put down a deposit, cuz this morning while looking out the
kitchen window I saw a house sparrow investigating the property.
Guess we'll see who wins "House Wars"
