Dog Injured and left in Colorado Mountains...

I got wind of this story via "Clark the Dog"--you know Clark, he's that dog  featured on that bacon video that went viral awhile back. Well, he has a Facebook page and the following was posted on it today...

"About a week ago some people went up to hike up Mt. Bierstadt in CO and they took their dog( German Shepherd). The dog tore up it's feet and couldn't make the trip back down. Some people saw people trying to bring the dog down over a boulder field, not long after that the dog was seen alone...he had been left behind. The dog has badly damaged feet and isn't moving much. People have been up searching for him for most of the week"

The following is the link to the web site that has more on the story....so you can read it for yourself.
Dog in Colorado...  be sure to read  the comments, very interesting.

The dog reportedly was RESCUED by 8 heroes...
THREE Cheers FOR the RESCUERS!!!

Granted we are only hearing one side of the story...leaving our minds to wonder how anyone could leave their  injured dog on the mountainside.  I am not judging and hoping that the owners are not in need of rescue themselves..... all I know is that I could not and would NEVER leave my girlz  alone and injured.  You'd find me right next to them until help arrived. I am pretty certain my girlz would do the same!!

I will be interested in learning more about this story...until then, I'm going to hug on my girlz!!

  2. I am with you. I hate to judge without knowing all the facts. But like you there is NO WAY my MOM would ever leave me, No Way. Would anyone leave their human child, I don't think so.

  4. Hi there! And thank you for stopping by my bloggie yesterday!

We just went over to look at that thread and it looks like the owner has posted. It's on the next-to-the-last page. He sure seems relieved and sorry and humbled by all the peoples that came together to help his dog, Missy. He said he called 911 but they told him that they couldn't risk a rescue and he says he didn't even think abouts asking other hikers to help him get her out.

My mom says she can't imagine leaving any of us behind either. But sometimes life throws things at you that you don't expect. I just hope if he gets Missy back, this owner will learn to be more careful where he takes her and have a plan in place if they're ever in a bad situation again.

By the way, here's another story of TWO dogs - 60 pounds and 80 pounds - that got stranded on Quandary Peak here in Colorado and were rescued by being carried out in backpacks! http://www.dogheirs.com/elleng/posts/1681-dogs-carried-off-mountain-top-by-search-and-rescue-team

    1. I tried to keep up with the story as the day went on....don't know what the answer is whether the dog goes to a new home or remains with Anthony. Glad I am not the one to make that call.
Thanks for the link to the other story--

  5. i am wondering why someone would take a dog up there to begin with, and the thought of leaving it makes me furious.

  7. There is no way I could have left my pup behind. We had a similar situation years ago where my girl cut her paw. I gave our gear to the group we were hiking with and swam 2 miles across the lake with my dog. Halfway across, we met a boat that carried us to shore, and then just sat and waited for our group to look for us. We were cold, tired and worn out, but it was the only way!

  9. Hi Val, I loved the gifts you sent Goose-you and the girls are such great friends!!!! I haven't heard this story but you can be sure I'm going to check it out. Don't know where the mountain is but like you, I'd die(I hope)before I ever left my beloved dog alone. Hopefully, he will have a new forever home if his old owners don't want him.
    Have a great evening.

  12. I'd feel better just giving these folk the benefit of the doubt, esp not knowing what hardships they encountered. But like your other commenters, it wouldn't even cross my mind to leave my dog behind - even to try to get help. What a relief to know that not only was the dog rescued, but is receiving enough press to ensure his destiny.
