"NEW" a photo challenge: Week #1

Happy "NEW" Year---Sunrise-1.1.15
Happy New Year!! a day late.

Here in Hawaii it's a tradition to light up the sky with fireworks. Since we live in a tropical environment that means that nearly everyone is outside and blowing up stuff on New Year's Eve, unlike Nebraska where it's too dang cold to blow stuff up on New Years Eve. In this household we close up the house, turn on fans, the TV and  the stereo to drown out the noise, because the Girlz are extremely afraid of the big bangs. This is due partially to our life on Molokai a few years ago. Over there someone must have had a connection with some military type explosives and of course those peeps lived near us and let them explode all night long. The Girlz were never "gun shy" until then.

I worked New Years Eve and arrived home at 6p.m. to find the Girlz already huddled up in the house with Ron. To me, New Year's Eve is a night of pure torture for our animal friends. My heart goes out to those that don't have a place to hide or get away from the chaos.
As the night progressed we listened to praise and worship music (loudly) while watching football games. I lay under the covers trying to comfort two dogs that are insisting that they also needed to be under the covers with me. I am sure if Gracie could have burrowed her way under my skin she would have.
Tick, tick, tick....
11:45 p.m. the booms got more intense and frequent. I thought to myself only a little longer and this will all be over....midnight, a plethora of explosions and then the house feel silent...We lost power!! The entire island was silent...except for the fireworks that continued well into the wee hours of the morning. We no longer had the sound buffer and now my Gracie was beside herself, burrowing in her bedding, she could get close enough, Schatzie across the room panting. When would this end??

Finally at 1:23a.m. I put Gracie in a full body hold and she collapsed in my arms, exhausted from the noise. She had had enough. The house was still silent as we all tried to finally sleep.
I had to work on New Years Day so our  morning walk was cut short but, we walked by all sorts of remnants of the previous nights activity.  I wondered where all the party animals were now....they sure had a mess to clean up, while the Girlz and I delighted in the sunrise of the New Year.
What a mess and huge waste of money (IMO)

we hate things that go boom!
